Macomb County strengthening bridges with maintenance, rehab and replacement work

The Macomb County Department of Roads (MCDR) continues work to improve Macomb County’s bridge network as part of the agency’s Bridge Program. MCDR has multiple preventative maintenance, rehabilitation and replacement bridge projects taking place this year as part of more than $80 million in road, bridge and traffic improvements being made throughout Macomb County.

“From maximizing the County’s investment in infrastructure to securing state and federal funding, our team at the Department of Roads works relentlessly to ensure safe and reliable travel for the residents, motorists and visitors that use Macomb County’s 225 bridges,” said Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel. “There isn’t a bridge we can’t fix if we have adequate funding.”

Work is underway on eight bridges as part of MCDR’s 2022 construction schedule, including three structures that were selected by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to receive funding for rehabilitation and major improvements. MDOT’s Local Agency Bridge Bundle Program, an initiative launched earlier this year, bundles local bridge projects together to make them more cost-effective.
