Local mother and daughter make Shop Local Macomb a yearly tradition

It’s almost that time again. The time to shop small. The time to shop close to home. The time to support our neighbors in business. It’s almost November 27th - otherwise known as Small Business Saturday. For quite a few years now my mom and I have made it our mission to shop at as many local stores as we can find in northern Macomb. We go to great communities like New Baltimore, New Haven, Richmond, Romeo, Armada, Clinton Township, Mount Clemens and Chesterfield.

We started off doing this as a fun mom and daughter bonding opportunity and it has grown into our tradition. We have made so many amazing friends over the years while helping support our local communities by shopping at these great shops that are right around the corner. One of my favorite things to do is shop, so when we started on our adventure I was ecstatic and filled with joy. It was the perfect time. It was right before the holidays. This was a great time to spend together and shop for our family and friends.

When we head out, we are on a mission to find our favorites and the unique! My personal favorites are custom chocolates. More specifically chocolate coated caramel twirled pretzels, chocolate covered Oreos and chocolate covered s’mores! My mom on the other hand loves homemade everything for the house. Specialty food, candles, decor and more. And who doesn’t love all things made in Michigan? We sure do, and we find a ton of it when we shop local! Michigan coffee, Michigan snacks, Michigan honey, Michigan art, Michigan puzzles and games, Michigan hand knit clothing and so much more!!!

After a long day of shopping we always make time for one more tradition….dinner at our favorite local restaurants. With so many family-owned restaurants in Macomb County, it’s sometimes hard to choose. All I can say is that we haven’t been disappointed yet. We have always been met by great staff and have always enjoyed great food!

We always look forward to Small Business Saturday as a kick-off to our holiday shopping, but it’s not just about making these businesses our go-to one day out of the year, it’s about making them our go-to all year long. Whether it’s bubble tea or ice cream on a hot summer day, a great dress for homecoming, the perfect birthday present, or dinner with family. We know that it can all be found in a small business in Macomb County.
