I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!

It’s almost National Ice Cream Day and scattered across Macomb County there are plenty of ice cream shops that you can visit while the summer heat only grows hotter. As there are so many options, I would like to present the stores that I have visited so far!

Erma’s “Original” Frozen Custard, a local favorite, has three locations: one in Shelby Township, one in St. Clair Shores, and another in Warren. I’ve been to two out of three and not once has Erma’s dropped the ball. They have about 30 different varieties of parfaits, delicious sundaes, shakes, cones, and even their anticipated surprise flavors of the week. There is no inside seating, but not to worry! After you order, there is plenty of outdoor seating and open space to enjoy your dessert.

If you’re in Harrison Township, you may want to try out Lori’s or Frosty Boy. Lori’s Lick’em Up Ice Cream serves all kinds of treats, from smoothies and shakes, to soft-serve and Ashby’s ice cream in cones. You can also purchase ice cream cakes and even hot foods such as hamburgers and onion rings. At Lori’s there is plenty of seating as well, with both indoor and outdoor options available. With over 49 flavors of ice cream to choose from, including sugar free alternatives, Lori’s has something for everyone!

Frosty Boy of Harrison Township is another ice cream parlor with lots to love. With hand-dipped and soft-serve options, there are tons of flavors to explore. Their Strawberry Shortcake in particular is “the perfect sweet summer treat to share,” commented co-worker Amy Lafnear, who split the delectable dessert with another co-worker and friend, Janelle Arbuckle-Michael. I am partial to chocolate, however, so the Brownie Delight would be my go-to treat. Similar to Erma’s there is no indoor seating, but the outdoor patio is open to all!

If you’re in northern Macomb County, you might want to stop by Frontier Town’s Ice Cream Parlor in Washington Township. With tons of outdoor seating and a fun and colorful interior, this ice cream shop is a great place to stop by with the family. Their selection of treats includes regular hand-dipped or soft-serve ice cream, hot fudge sundaes, shakes & malts, and even Dippin’ Dots! They also host a plethora of vegan options that taste just as sweet as any ordinary cone would.

Looking for something south of I-696? Foxy’s Ice Cream in Eastpointe has you covered. With fair and reasonable prices, this 60-year-old, family-owned parlor has a selection of treats ranging from sundaes, flurries, and shakes, to traditional soft-serve and hand-dipped ice cream in a cup or a cone. The parlor now has seating both inside and outside for you to enjoy whichever delicious flavor you choose. It’s the perfect stop during a long day out in the heat!

Macomb County is home to so many ice cream shops and parlors that it is almost impossible to list them all, but we tried our best to assemble one here. Which ones would you recommend to try out this summer?
