On the morning of June 3, 2022, the Green Macomb Parks and Natural Resources division teamed up with Clinton Township and Second Nature Brands to assist with beautification efforts by planting trees on the township’s civic center campus.
The trees were placed along a pathway leading from the Clinton-Macomb Public Library to the Senior Center. An inclusive playground is set to be built in the area and while construction hasn’t started yet, the trees will grow enough to produce shade for park-goers by the time the playground is installed. At this time, the Inclusive Playground Committee is collecting donations and will be hosting a Battle of the Bands fundraiser event on July 29.
Trees were also planted near Clinton Township’s Gold Star Family Monument, a memorial honoring the loved ones of Gold Star Family members who sacrificed themselves for our freedoms. The monument itself will be rededicated Saturday, June 11 at 1pm. Thanks to volunteers from Second Nature Brands, the trail leading up to it has been adorned with newly planted trees just in time for the event. After all, there’s nothing more fitting than planting life that protects us, around a memorial created to honor the lives of those who already have.
Trees protect us by positively impacting our physical and mental health, but they specifically help absorb tons of pollutants every year. Second Nature Brands knows this better than most, as they have pledged to plant 1 million trees by 2026 in an effort to combat climate change and promote healthier living. To do this, their employees are given days off to help plant trees in the metro Detroit area. This is their third volunteer tree planting with Macomb County as part of the Green Macomb Urban Forest Partnership program.
