Love your local business

We're on the cusp of March and Valentine's Day is well behind us. But just because the holiday has passed and St. Patrick's Day is on the horizon doesn't mean we can't keep spreading love to our local businesses. Because when you shop local, your money stays in your community. And that helps create a strong local economy where businesses prosper and people thrive.

With that said, we're sharing some inspiration to help you shop and eat local all year round. Earlier this month, we asked our Make Macomb Your Home Facebook followers to give us their favorite local spots. And they delivered. From coffee shops to gift stores to home decor markets, we received recommendations for all kinds of places to treat your loved one, or treat yourself.

So without further ado, here's our Make Macomb Your Home guide to loving your local business.

  • First up: The Junk Drawer Mercantile. Located in St. Clair Shores, this shop carries thousands of handmade items and gifts created by local artists. They also host fun events and DIY workshops so you can get creative too! Visit their page to learn more and stop into the store to experience it for yourself. You can even shop online too!
  • Next: Flora's Trash to Treasure and Main St. Mercantile & CO. These Richmond shops have some great vintage pieces, antiques and handmade items that will make for a perfect holiday gift. They also host really fun events --- so you'll definitely want to stop in to join in the fun!
  • Then: Cookies By Design- Shelby Township and Hometown Harvest Gourmet Boards. Check out these local businesses and purchase a sweet or savory something. Whether it's a beautiful charcuterie board filled with meats and cheeses from Hometown Harvest Gourmet Boards, or a cookie bouquet and keepsake from Cookies by Design --- whatever you choose, your experience will certainly be a tasty one!
  • How about: Green Thyme Workshop in Richmond, which offers wonderfully scented bath and body products. They even have a make and take option where you can create your own concoction! And then there's π‹π’𝐯 𝐚 π‹π’𝐭𝐭π₯𝐞 at home in New Haven, a cute and curated artisan market with everything from t-shirts to home decor. Hit one or both and pick up the perfect present!
  • Don't forget: Armade In MI and the Armada Glass Company. Head up to this northern Macomb County locale and make a day of it! Set up a glass blowing date for you and your loved at the Armada Glass Company and make your own keepsake. Then head over to Armade in Michigan and browse the local artisan products. We're certain you'll come across something special.
  • Finally: Let's head up to Downtown Romeo, MI and hit a few treasured spots for gifts, vintage items, bath and body products and so much more. There's MJC MarketplaceOld World Nouveau and All Around the House Interiors -- we could spend hours browsing at all of these shops. And when you're done, head over to Four Corners' Diner for a bite to eat and then stop by Main’s Treat Coffeehouse to refuel from your busy day! Sounds like a perfect Saturday afternoon to us.

We also saw local recommendations for fun and unique date ideas in this Metromode piece - including: Filipo Marc WineryFord HouseStray Cat LoungeTotal Axe Throwing and Argentine Tango Detroit.

So heed the call Macomb County! Support your local businesses and spread the love all year long.
