Tax abatement: UTEC expands operations in Sterling Heights

With the help of an industrial facility tax abatement, Universal Tool and Equipment and Controls Inc. (UTEC) will be expanding its operations in Sterling Heights. UTEC provides automation systems, welding systems and tooling to OEM’s, Tier 1’s and integrators. The continued growth of the company brought forth the need for expansion.

On May 22, UTEC received a nine-year tax abatement on the new real property investment with the help of Macomb County Planning and Economic Development (MCPED). MCPED has helped Universal Tool and Equipment Controls, Inc. receive three additional industrial facility tax abatements during the last 10 years.

The company will be leasing a 42,500 square foot speculative building that sits behind its current facility. The new building will focus on machining and fabrication. With a total investment of $4.6 million, the expanded operation is expected to create 25 new jobs, for a total of roughly 127 employees.
