Mount Clemens, MI -  Today,  a 27-year-old Rile woman was arraigned in connection with a car crash in Washington Twp.

It is alleged that on February 12, 2024, Courtney Ellise Niezgoda was driving her Ford EcoSport on M-53 near 32 Mile Road when she ran a red light hitting another vehicle killing 63-year-old Tina Yaney of Macomb.  Niezgoda was allegedly operating her phone at the time of the crash.

Courtney Niezgoda was charged with Reckless Driving Causing Death, a 15 year felony.  Niezgoda was arraigned in 42-1 Romeo District Court where District Court Judge Jennifer Andary set bond at $50,000 cash/surety, 10% with bond conditions of no social media use of any kind, no alcohol or drugs with testing, no driving for any reason and she must maintain employment.  A Probable Cause Hearing is scheduled for Monday, June 24, 2024 at 1:00pm.

"The alleged reckless behavior of using social media while driving, led to a tragic and entirely preventable loss of life. These alleged actions demonstrate a complete disregard for the safety of others, and she must be held accountable for the devastating consequences of her choices," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
