Mount Clemens, MI -  On Thursday, June 20, 2024, the Michigan Supreme Court remanded the Macomb County Prosecutor’s appeal in the Matthew Lewinski murder case back to the Michigan Court of Appeals.

It is alleged that in December 2020, Matthew Lewinski murdered his girlfriend, hid her body and later cut her body up to conceal the murder.  Before Lewinski’s trial began, Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Diane Druzinski suppressed Lewinski’s alleged confession.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office appealed Druzinski’s ruling to suppress the alleged confession to the Michigan Court of Appeals.  The Michigan Court of Appeals denied to hear the appeal.  The Macomb County Prosecutors’ Office appealed to the Michigan Supreme Court.  The Michigan Supreme Court instead granted the appeal but sent the appeal back to the Michigan Court of Appeals to hear the appeal.  The Michigan Supreme Court ordered that the stay entered on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 remain in  effect until the completion of the appeal. The Macomb County Prosecutor’s motion is due to the Michigan Court of Appeals by Thursday, July 18, 2024.
