“We’re excited to bring the Summer Discovery Cruise program back for 2024” said Andrew Cox, director/health officer of the Macomb County department of Health and Community Services which oversees the MSU Extension department. “We’ve had productive planning sessions with our partners and as a result, we’re able to offer even more cruise themes and more departures than last year."

Passengers will have the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely two-hour cruise along beautiful Lake St. Clair while learning about lighthouses, birds, fisheries, ongoing scientific research, and more. Cruises will feature many engaging topics, including:

  • Birds of Lake St. Clair
  • Fish of Lake St. Clair
  • Great Lakes Science
  • Shipwrecks
  • Trivia Night
  • Twilight Hour
  • Water Investigations
  • Voyageurs

Cruises will depart from, and return to the Lake St. Clair Metropark marina July 9-28, 2024, with departures at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person and available online through the Huron-Clinton Metroparks website. Tickets may also be purchased via phone by calling 586-463-4581. Seating is limited and early registration is highly recommended.

Angela Scapini, a Michigan State University Extension Sea Grant Extension Educator in Macomb County agrees, “I am so excited for this year’s program. We’ve got awesome topics and guest speakers lined up, and we even have a couple ‘trivia night’ themed cruises included in this year’s schedule. I can’t wait to set sail.” Angela works with local communities, partners and networks promoting Great Lakes literacy and community resiliency through place-based education programs and has been instrumental in the design of this year’s Summer Discovery Cruise program.
