Macomb County Treasurer's Office withholding all occupied homes and businesses from foreclosure

Press Release

MOUNT CLEMENS, MI – “Due to the economic hardships we are all facing as we fight united against the COVID-19 threat, I want our taxpayers to know I am withholding all occupied homes and businesses from foreclosure. Properties that pose a threat to the public health, safety and welfare, will continue to be subject to foreclosure. Although occupied properties are no longer facing foreclosure this year, delinquent taxes must still be paid and any unpaid balances will continue to accrue interest. I urge all taxpayers to make regular payments if they can. If you are having any difficulty doing so, please call our office at (586) 469-5190 for information on how we can help Keep Macomb Your Home,” said Macomb County Treasurer Larry Rocca.

Collecting delinquent taxes is one of the main responsibilities of the County Treasurer. Treasurer Rocca previously filed an ex parte amendment to the judgment of foreclosure to extend the redemption period. As the end of the extended redemption period approaches, many businesses remain closed and taxpayers remain subject to a stay at home order. Treasurer Rocca has determined that the best course of action to balance both his responsibilities and the unprecedented financial crisis facing taxpayers is to halt the foreclosure of occupied homes and businesses.
