Honorable Matthew S. Switalski

Judge Switalski was elected to the Macomb County Circuit Court in 2002. The youngest of seven children, he graduated from Roseville High School in 1987, received his B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1991, and his J.D. from the University of Detroit in 1994.

Judge Switalski was elected to the Macomb County Circuit Court in 2002. The youngest of seven children, he graduated from Roseville High School in 1987, received his B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1991, and his J.D. from the University of Detroit in 1994. He served as Assistant City Attorney for St. Clair Shores, Eastpointe and Grosse Pointe Farms from 1995 to 1998. As a Macomb County Assistant Prosecutor from 1999 to 2002, Judge Switalski won jury convictions for murder, rape, arson, carjacking, kidnapping and armed robbery. As a Circuit Judge, he presides over family division cases, including adoptions and felony non-support criminal matters.

All trials, evidentiary hearings, criminal matters (with the exception of arraignment/conferences),  personal protection order matters (motion to enter, motion to terminate, show cause hearing, etc) and all juvenile/neglect matters will be held in person.

Motion hearings on Monday, criminal arraignments/conferences, pro cons/motions to enter judgments, status conferences, settlement conferences and name change hearings will be held via Zoom.

Motion day

  • Day/Time: Monday 8:30 a.m. with attorney, 1:30 p.m. Pro per
  • Check-in Procedure: Check in with court clerk
  • Motions heard other than motion day: To be scheduled with clerk/secretary
  • Motion adjournments: Contact Clerk prior to motion day
  • Additional comments: Copies of motions and responses (including briefs) must be mailed or dropped off to the Judge prior to the hearing.

DIVORCE:

  • Taking of Pro Confesso Judgments/Consent Judgments: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday at 8:30 a.m.  Request for hearing required for date and time.
  • Policy of waiving statutory six month waiting period: Allowed when reconciliation is not possible and it is in the best interested of the minor child(ren).
  • Friend of the Court recommendation required for:
    • Spousal Support: No
    • Custody: No
    • Child Support: Yes
    • Parenting Time: No

Status conferences

Tuesdays, 9:00 a.m. (clients do not need to be present)

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9:00 a.m.
