Judge Julie Gatti graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1989. She received her Juris Doctorate from Wayne State University in 1995. Judge Gatti was elected to the Circuit Court bench in November 2018. Prior to her election, Judge Gatti was in private practice, specializing in Family Law. She served 9 years on the Board of the Macomb County Bar Association (MCBA) and was elected its 85th President. She was the proud recipient of the MCBA’s Civility Award for 2017-2018. Judge Gatti serves on the Board of Directors of The Resolution Center. Additionally, she is a member of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan - Macomb Region, the Italian American Bar Association of Michigan, and the Italian American Chamber of Commerce of Michigan.

COVID-19 directive
Judge Julie Gatti's courtroom is open to the public. For all civil and criminal hearings, litigants and their attorneys may appear in person even when a hearing is scheduled for a Zoom appointment. If you are to appear via Zoom we appreciate you speak with your client prior to the hearing date. In person appearance is required for criminal pleas and sentencing.

Policies and procedures
Adjournments
Adjournment requests of scheduled events are routinely handled by the Judge’s judicial secretary (Bridget (586) 493-5752). After approval, a stipulation and proposed order for adjournment which includes the new date(s) and is signed by all counsel shall be e-filed.
Adjournments of motions are handled by the clerk (Jessica (586) 463-2458) or secretary (Bridget (586) 493-5752).
Adjournment of trials must be brought by motion with all counsel appearing as a new trial date will be provided if the request is granted.
Alternate service
Requests for alternate service must be accompanied by a verified motion, proposed order, an affidavit of the process server showing reasonable efforts to make service of process and a postal verification.
Appeals
No stipulation for extension of time to file briefs on appeal will be accepted. The party seeking the extension must file a motion.
Facilitation/mediation
The Court strongly encourages all forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution during the pendency of litigation and is specifically authorized by local court rule to order parties into Facilitation. You may use this form.
Motions

Following the Court’s ruling on a motion, parties shall sign and submit a proposed order.
Scheduling order
For most civil cases, Court Management issues a standard Discovery and Case Evaluation Order setting the schedule for discovery, witness lists, dispositive motions and case evaluation. For the first request, Judge Gatti will permit up to two 60-day extensions of the dates set forth in the Discovery and Case Evaluation Order by stipulation of the parties (you may use this form). All new dates must be listed in the order or it will be rejected. Any subsequent requests to extend the scheduling order dates must be made by motion and will only be granted upon a showing of good cause. If a Case Evaluation Hearing is scheduled within 14 days of granting the adjournment, the parties must pay the $150.00 adjournment fee prior to submitting the order for entry.
